My experiences in Indonesia

In July my family traveled to Indonesia to visit my Grandma before she retired from her job in the reading program. The reading program help poor children in Indonesia to be more interested in reading by making interesting books for them. Poor people could afford to go to school because it was not very much money.  I was amazed and shocked at their living conditions. They lived in houses the size of my bathroom made out of old wood or sometimes even just a tarpaulin! In their houses did not have beds, toilets, electricity, water and certainly no flat screen TVs or iPod touches. The one shared toilet that they did have would be disgusting and all the waste would go in the river! Indonesian people also chuck their rubbish in the river so as you'd expect they were horribly smelly. It was fascinating how even though the children lived in such dirty shacks they still managed to go to school very clean and presentable because their Mum's very often washed their uniform. The poor children were very proud to be going to school. My whole family had a great experience in Indonesia that I will never forget and even though Grandma is retired now she still often goes to visit.
