My Hero at Home

My Family Hero
By Reuben

My hero is my Uncle Grant. When he was a teenager he dived in to water that he thought was much deeper than it was and he broke his neck.
He is now disabled and in a wheelchair but this hasn’t stopped him from doing incredible things.
Special qualities he has are he is really good at art and is a Paralympian. He does shooting for the New Zealand Paralympic air rifle team.
I look up to him because he is doing amazing things that are inspiring me. I would like to be a shooter or artist like him.
He makes me feel safe and cared for. He makes me feel proud because of his effort.
He has influenced me  he because has survived breaking his neck.
Tough times he has had were recovering from breaking his neck and learning to shoot and paint with a brush in his mouth.
People who have helped him are my Grandma because it must have been hard for my Grandma to look after my uncle.
A special message I have for him is don’t give up on your dreams.

The Amazing Liquid

On YouTube my uncle's friends made a video about a liquid that you splash on your clothes or anything special and makes them stain proof. They splashed tomato sauce, mustard and chocolate sauce on some shoes and the shoes were absolutely stainless. Unfortunately if you stain your object too much it may get tiny stains. I made this discovery when I went to America.

Sir Edmund Hillary's sleeping bag

On the Thursday the 8 of August Mr Gault came and told us about Sir Edmund Hillary's sleeping bag that he used when he climbed Mt Everest.

Mr Gault explained how Edmund  had to climb in the top of his sleeping bag as it didn't have a zipper.

It took Sir Edmund Hillary 2 months to climb Mount Everest.

Sir Edmund Hillary had a wife and 3 children.

He did a lot of work in Nepal starting schools for children who were very poor, because it is very poor around that part of the world. His wife and children would come and see him when he was there sometimes.

Although he was the first to climb Mount Everest he had a very sad life too.

When he was in Nepal his wife and youngest daughter were coming to see him but their plane crashed and they both passed away.

Then his friend died in the plane crash on Mount Erebus.
